Demo Patch Notes

The False Hero demo did not freeze on 4 June 2026. Torchlight Games kept patching it in public, which is the right way to run a solo soulslike up to a 22 September launch. This page condenses Steam news posts. It is not a legal transcript of every bullet. If a number matters to your muscle memory, update the demo and test — especially Ignorance and the machines.

12 June 2026 — control and camera pass

New: WASD remapping; unlocked Combat Art counter in the arts menu; Visual Style can disable pixelize.

Balance: less lingering hitbox on some Ignorance and Foreign Defense Machine attacks; scholar book projectiles slightly slower and less accurate; Ignorance stab slightly slower.

Misc: Spectral Blade hitbox slightly larger so point-blank enemies connect; “saving…” replaced by a blinking mask icon; Cerulean Cape less stiff; lock-on range up; controller camera rotation more responsive.

If your controls still feel like June 4, you are on an old build.

Early combat tuning (Book Throw, flamethrower, poise)

A later notes dump — the one that also talks about developer-play boss footage — cut Book Throw frequency on Scholars of Wisdom, grew the terrain detection on enemy books, slightly reduced default run speed, reduced Flamethrower Combat Art damage, slowed Ignorance phase-two stagger regen, lowered poise on all demo bosses, and increased Evasive Thrust’s hitbox. That is the patch that rewrites a tier list. Flamethrower is no longer a room joke. Sword-only is even less of a plan.

1 July 2026 — v26.7.1

New: Combat Arts can be upgraded in the tutorial area so the first Knowledge Points matter; newly acquired items auto-select in inventory.

Balance: you can stand up earlier after a stagger.

Fixes: stuck in the first log-tunnel in the land of Birth; wrong ink number in the upgrade menu on mouse and keyboard the first time it opens; repeated staggers not showing on the bar; exclamation mark claiming you could upgrade arts without enough Knowledge; trapped on a Bloodspring after death with an item popup; font clipping in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Misc: larger, longer damage numbers; tutorial text that Insight cannot be farmed by repeating the same enemy; inventory text that Scrolls and Clothing equip in Equipment; quieter poison hiss; shallower poison swamps; intro subtitle flicker gone.

Birth existing in a bugfix is how this wiki knows the full atlas is more than Wisdom.

27 August 2026 — v26.8.15

New: difficulty options in boss-refight (Recommended, Easy, Very Easy); inventory folders replaced by a horizontal section selector; Polish translation; optional auto-select of most recent items; option to hide new-item exclamation marks; force Xbox or PlayStation icons; camera follow smoothness during lock-on.

Balance: Scroll of Discipline no longer reduces damage dealt; Flamethrower damage slightly reduced again. If you kept Discipline in a drawer because a June clip called it a tax, re-read the card on the items page.

Fixes: enemies refusing to attack if you stood too close to a wall; endless black screen when loading a save; exclamation marks missing on scrolls or clothes; lock-on indicator jitter at low fps; sprint animation continuing while healing in swamp water.

The same cycle includes the “one more month” energy before the date pull. Read it next to the release date page, not as a separate game.

How to use this list in a fight

  • Update before you call hitboxes broken.
  • Rebind if you installed before 12 June.
  • Spend Knowledge Points in the tutorial area after 1 July.
  • Stop Insight-looping one scholar.
  • Recheck Flamethrower damage before you copy a June build.
  • Turn on damage numbers if stagger still feels mythical.
  • Use boss-refight difficulties as a practice tool, not as the “real” ending.

The developer also posted a “Developer Plays” video of demo bosses to show the intended combat style. That is the closest thing to a design document: press Combat Arts, do not worship the default sword. Pair these notes with Combat Arts and you will enter 22 September on the same patch philosophy the designer has been pushing all summer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for the Steam demo and the 22 Sep 2026 launch.

Do I need to reinstall the False Hero demo after each patch?

Steam updates it. Open the client, let it finish, then check Visual Style and keybinds — new options appear in old menus.

Why did Flamethrower get weaker?

A balance pass reduced its damage. Use it as a choke tool, not as a default on every loadout. See the tier list.

Is Polish officially supported?

Yes in later demo builds, after the developer noticed a large Polish-speaking audience. The store’s original 11-language list did not include it.
